A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that a compatible camera can turn back into data. In everyday use, that data is often a web link, but it can also contain a contact card, Wi-Fi configuration or simple text. Creating one is easy; making one that reliably scans on a printed sign takes a little care.
1. Decide what the scanner should do
Start with the action. If you want to open a webpage, use a complete and tested HTTPS address. To share guest-network information, use a Wi-Fi QR code. To let clients save your details, choose a vCard. A URL in a generic QR code does not automatically become an editable or tracked dynamic QR code.
2. Generate the QR code
Open the QRBento website generator, enter your link, and confirm that the preview updates. Our Version 1 generators run in the browser. We do not need to upload your static QR payload to produce an image.
3. Keep contrast and quiet space
Dark patterns against a light, plain background are the most dependable starting point. Maintain an empty border around all four sides—the “quiet zone”—so the camera can distinguish the barcode from surrounding text and graphics. QRBento's generator includes the recommended four-module margin.
4. Choose the right export file
PNG is useful for slides, screen graphics and everyday documents. SVG is helpful when a designer needs scalable artwork for print. Avoid screenshots of a tiny QR code stretched much larger; that can make edges fuzzy and introduce printing artifacts.
5. Test before sharing
Scan it using your phone's default camera and, if possible, another device. Verify the destination. For a business sign, test from the distance at which people will actually see it. If the pattern looks dense, use a larger print size or shorten the content where possible.
6. Know what is permanent
A static QR image does not automatically expire, but its destination might. If the website is deleted, the URL changes, or an account is unavailable, the old code can lead nowhere. Use a stable web address if you expect a printed code to remain useful for years.
